Poor performance by West Indies

Ya man! Sri Lanka has come through with a great victory. Jayasuriya made a century with the help of Jawardene. Anyways, good luck to Sri Lanka in the rest of the tournament. Here are some pics...

Well, there you have it, West Indies unofficially out of this tournament.

The power teams on top yet again

Australia beat the West Indies. Lara stood up a good fight with 77 runs but the West Indies fell short against the powerhouse Australia.

Sri Lanka depended on their bowlers to fight off South Africa. It was looking good but at the last moment SA went through by one wicket.

Malinga had 4 wickets in 4 balls, that's the highlight of the day!

South Africa must win situation

South Africa must win tommorow's match against Sri Lanka as they didn't have any points to carry over to the Super Eights. It will be tough going against a young energetic team and the Wisden's Top Cricketer Murali!

South Africa (probable) 1 Graeme Smith, 2 AB de Villiers, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 Herschelle Gibbs, 5 Ashley Prince, 6 Mark Boucher, 7 Justin Kemp, 8 Shaun Pollock, 9 Andrew Hall, 10 Charles Langeveldt, 11 Makhaya Ntini

Sri Lanka
(probable)1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Mahela Jayawardene, 4 Kumar Sangakkara, 5 Chamara Silva, 6 Russel Arnold, 7 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 8 Chaminda Vaas, 9 Farveez Maharoof, 10 Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Lasith Malinga

Greg Chappell not happy

"Even in the last selection meeting, I fought for youth. The senior players fought against it and the chairman went with them out of fear of media, if youth did not perform," Chappell wrote in his SMS to cricket write Rajan Bala.

So let the excuses begin! This is the first of many to come my friends. This coach says that he "fought for youth" to be included in the Indian World Cup squad but the senior players faought against him! If this is true Chappell then you are my hero! Chappell also said that Dinesh Karthik (wicketkeeper and batsman) had leadership material.

India needs to stop this media supported cricket because if this continues there will be no cricket team to be proud of. You will have many more suicides and heart attacks. I am dead serious!!!

Hayden's century helps Australia

Matthew Hayden's 158 against the West Indies puts Australia in a comfortable spot with 322 for 6. The match is being delayed due to rain but Australia have played their 50 overs. I guess the match will have to continue tommorow because the latest they can play until is 5:45PM.

Brian Lara and the boys need be in top shape if they want to get even close to that huge 322!

Pak team not suspects

Mark Shields, the deputy commisioner of Jamaican Police, said that Pakistan is no longer suspects in Woolmer's death.
"I have got no evidence to suggest it was anybody in the squad" said Shields.
The police will be reviewing CCTV tapes to further help them in solving this case.
Jeff Rees the anti-corruption chief investigator will look at tapes of Ireland-Pakistan match to find any link between the result and Woolmer's death.

Let's just hope they find the killer fast.

Bad news for New Zealand fans

Kiwi opener Lou Vincent has broken his wrist during practice.

Vincent sustained the injury yesterday after being struck on the left arm by pace bowler Shane Bond early in the Black Caps' first net session in Antigua ahead of their opening Super Eights game with West Indies on Thursday.

Kumble to retire

"I think it's a really exciting World Cup and I guess it will be watched by millions and millions of viewers. It is definitely going to be my last World Cup and probably the last One-Day International series as well for me. So, definitely it is going to be challenging," said Kumble just before leaving the West Indies.

Now only if the other senior players retired it would be the best news to the Indians! The Indian team really needs fresh blood and maybe a new captain. The current captain is not the one that the young Indian players need. They need someone with more energy on the field and off the field. Sorry Dravid, you were good for sometime but everyone needs to move on.

Pakistan team stops over in London

Pakistan stopped over in London as they didn't want to land in Pakistan all at once. Their angry fans would of been waiting in Pakistan to welcome them home. Pak team have decided to land in Pakistan in groups of 2 and 3 so not to cause a riot at the airports.

Concerning the Woolmer muder, the deputy comissioner Mark Shields said that a muder is not solved in 45 minutes like it is on TV. "Everybody at the moment is a witness, but we do not have more suspicion about one person over another" he told The Times.

This should be an interesting case, there was news just early this morning that the Pak-Irish match was under scrutiny, I don't know what that means but we can have our own conclusions.

Clue to Woolmer killer

Jamaican police report that the hotel surveillance video may have a clue which can lead to Bob Woolmer's killer. Police is in the process of transferring the videotape to a digital version to preserve the images. The video has footage of the 12th floor where the room of Woolmer was located but not of his door. "It's critically important because it may give us an image of the killer or killers of Bob Woolmer," Mark Shields said.

Let's just pray all goes well and they find the killer. Who might be behind Bob Woolmer's death?

Brick-walla wickets

Some people play it in greeny grounds. Some play it in municipal dumps*. Some people play with real wickets. Some people play with brick-walla wickets. Some people play in proper uniforms. Some people play in torn trousers. Some people have chai breaks. Some people have tea breaks. Some people win. Some people lose. They all love cricket.

Youtube to ban World Cup videos

The ICC has ordered Youtube to remove any World Cup 2007 videos. Both the ICC and Global Cricket Corporation are claiming copyright infrigement. Okay, one is not aloud to film the ground and share the recording with the public but what about recording of television?

Indian fan commits suicide

Mahadeb Sarkar hung himself after India's defeat to Sri Lanka. Mahadeb had an argument with his wife who planned to watch the match together at home but Mahadeb left her and hurried up to watch the match at a friend's place. The death of her husband lead her to attempt suicide but luckily for her the rope snapped alarming the neighbours. In another case, a 28-year-old man died of an heart attack after watching the match.

Indians are very passionate about Cricket and can give up their lives because of it. The Indian team should feel ashamed!

Super Eights

It has been a sad world cup for over a billion fans of this great game. India's humiliating defeat against Bangladesh put frowns on the Indian faces. If that was not enough, the tears came rolling down when the Lions of Sri Lanka gave India the final knockout blow by winning the 20th match of the 2007 World Cup by 69 runs.
Sri Lanka 254/6 (50 ov); India 185 (43.3 ov)

The Indians' last hope was maybe the unimaginable loss of Bangladesh against Bermuda. The Bangladeshi came out strong against Bermuda by winning the match with 7 wickets on hand. This was good news to everyone in Bangladesh, their team is going to the Super 8s! Good luck to them. Ireland is a big suprise for the Super 8s. Who would of thought that the Irish would beat Pakistan and clinch a spot in the Super 8s? They are looking strong, they have a chance in beating couple of team and maybe pulling off an upset. There you have two young and energetic teams who surely add some spice to the world cup. I would also put England in this category but I don't think they are as strong as the abovementioned clubs. Sorry British fans.

From this point on, the rest 5 teams are strong and passionate! Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand and of course the home team West Indies!

Here are the next matches for the week:
March, Tue 27 West Indies v Australia
March, Wed 28 South Africa v Sri Lanka
March, Thu 29 West Indies v New Zealand
March, Fri 30 Ireland v England
March, Sat 31 Australia v Bangladesh
April, Sun 1 West Indies v Sri Lanka
April, Mon 2 Bangladesh v New Zealand

There are 4 important match-ups which we have to watch for sure.

There you have it, the Super 8s!

If you have any comments, please post.
